POSITION SUMMARY

The Residential Shift Supervisor requires the individual to relate to both the physical and emotional needs of each child in care of the agency. The Shift Supervisor is designated to provide consultation and guidance to Youth Counselor & MHPs on duty and clients in the units.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides support and decision making assistance for staff on duty.
  2. Will assist in acquiring cottage staff coverage as needed. If overtime is necessary, the Shift Supervisor can approve 15 hours of overtime per staff, per pay period, otherwise it must be approved by the Program Manager.
  3. In the absence of administrative and Managerial staff, will provide supervision of all staff on duty in a treatment based leadership role. Only the Shift Supervisor can approve schedule changes for both clients and staff at this time.
  4. Physically restraining a client via approved TCI techniques may be required to ensure personal safety of both clients and staff.
  5. Collect all incident reports, documentation forms, and supporting documentation from Youth Counselor and the Activity Therapy Department prior to the end of each shift. The Shift Supervisor will ensure that there is accurate documentation for each situation that arises during their shift. Review all reports for accuracy, ensuring that all needed corrections are made prior to the end of the reporting staff's shift. Sign all documentation as Administrative Reviewer, and submit to the appropriate person/ main office designated box.
  6. The Shift Supervisor will make daily rounds of the cottage checking for safety and maintenance issues and submitting worker orders as needed and appropriate.
  7. Will have the knowledge of obtaining and contacting appropriate resources as outlined in the crisis intervention and runaway protocol, and in emergency medical situations.
  8. Provide consultation and guidance to on-duty staff as indicated.
  9. Submit Medicaid documentations as required by the agency as well as assist/provide oversight to all staff in their completion of Medicaid paperwork.
  10. Assess situations requiring use of the Seclusion Room.
  11. Accept calls from community residents and personnel from other agencies after regular business hours.
  12. Assist in the handling of special problems, emergencies, and crisis.
  13. Contact on-call person as needed and management for any police, medical, community or personnel emergencies, following after-hours protocol.
  14. Adhere to agency personnel policies
  15. Enter information on daily logs regarding events of their on duty hours.
  16. Participate in the on-going development and related activities of a comprehensive quality improvement process within the Child and Family Services division.
  17. The Shift Supervisor will assist in orientating new hires when completing new hire orientation in the program.
  18. The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring medication administration records are completed each night.
  19. The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for assisting the program manager in completing monthly fire drills, monthly cottage inspections, and cottage supply inventories making recommendations to the program manager as needed.
  20. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the ISBE food tracking and production record has been completed for breakfast and lunch on the weekends.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

It is important that the Shift Supervisor set realistic and positive standards of conduct. The Shift Supervisor should be punctual, responsible, and supportive of the program; attend required amount of training modules as required by the agency including clinical supervision; Attend meetings as required. Responsible for risk management efforts that reduce risk and liabilities to   the organization, assure compliance with relevant legal and licensure requirements, and improve services to client populations.  Other duties as assigned.

 

                                 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's Degree preferred, Or
  2. Mental Health Professional (MHP) completion.
  3. Preference will be given to individuals who have been employed in the Hoyleton DD program at least two year.
  4. Must be 21 years of age.
  5. Favorable evaluation for previous year.
  6. Must possess and retain a valid Illinois driver's license.
  7. The personal characteristics and experiential background that enables them to provide appropriate care for children, to win their respect, to guide them in their development, to manage a home for them effectively, and to participate in the overall treatment program designed for the clients served.
  8. The temperament suited to working with and caring for children with special needs as appropriate.
  9. DCFS/CANTS Clearance.
  10. Basic skills in first aid and the identification of medical needs.
