POSITION SUMMARY

Ability to relate to the physical, emotional, and the medical needs of each child in the residential programs of the agency.   It is important that the nurse set realistic and positive standards of conduct and morality. The Nurse should be punctual, responsible and supportive of the Residential Programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The Nurse is responsible for ensuring all medical appointments are made timely and transportation is secured for appointments.
  2. The Nurse is responsible for passing medications to clients at designated times.
  3. The Nurse is responsible for recording medical information for each child in the files.
  4. The Nurse is to ensure that all forms of medication are disbursed to the respective cottages.
  5. The Nurse will be responsible to insure each child has a current physical, dental, eye and hearing examinations and all immunizations required by state law.
  6. The Nurse will be responsible to insure payment to physicians and securing of medical cards.
  7. The Nurse will respond to colds, fevers, and routine health care.
  8. The Nurse will secure necessary written approval before medical procedures are executed and Psychotropic medication is dispensed.
  9. The Nurse is responsible for obtaining medication consents.
  10. The Nurse is responsible for creating and making changes to client MARS and documenting errors.
  11. Provide medication training to designated staff members.
  12. Adhere to Agency personnel policies in addition to Medicaid and DCFS policies and procedures.
  13. Enter factual information on daily medication logs and cottage logs regarding events of the day
  14. Participate in the on-going development and related activities of a comprehensive quality improvement process within the Child and Family Services division.
  15. Attend required amount of training modules as required by the agency
  16. Participate in physically restraining of a client when require to ensure personal safety of both clients and staff
  17. Participate in cottage staff meetings when necessary to provide medical information to staff for residents with major medical needs.
  18. Responsible for risk management efforts that reduce risk and liabilities to the organization, assure compliance with relevant legal and licensure requirements, and improve services to client populations.
  19. The Nurse may provide TB tests to employees as requested.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Graduate from a school of nursing holding state accreditation and a baccalaureate degree, courses in public health should be emphasized.
  2. Possess and retrain current license to practice as a professional registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in Illinois.
  3. Membership in a professional organization is desirable.
  4. Must possess and retain valid driver's license.
  5. Two years experience in public health nursing, school nursing, and maternal-child health nursing is valuable.
  6. Must be 25 years or older.
  7. Must possess and retain a valid Illinois driver's license
  8. The personal characteristics and experiential background that enables them to provide appropriate care for children, to win their respect, to guide them in their development, to manage a home for them effectively, and to participate in the overall treatment program designed for the clients served.
  9. The temperament suited to working with and caring for children with special needs as appropriate.
  10. Ability to training staff on basic skills in first aid and the identification of           Medical needs.
  11. DCFS/CANTS Clearance.
