POSITION SUMMARY

The ERC is responsible for a broad range of duties in support of the human resource department and assigned by the Human Resource Manager. Duties include assisting in developing programs and policies in areas of employee relations, employee retention, and unemployment. ERC is also responsible for interpreting existing personnel ordinances, policies and procedures, and addressing employee complaints or concerns. ERC must exercise initiative and independent judgment in ensuring proper administration of HR programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides advice, support and assistance by interpreting policies and procedures and by counseling the directors, officers, employees and government agencies on employment, record keeping, grievances and other personnel matters and procedures.
  2. Investigate alleged employee issues as it relates to violation of law or policy.
  3. Participate and Counsel during Critical Incident Reviews.
  4. Conducts all employment verifications. 
  5. Assists with the management of workers compensation and Family Medical leaves.
  6. Oversees or carries out response to Unemployment Insurance claims, appeals and hearings.
  7. Ensures compliance with wage garnishments and child support orders.
  8. Maintains personnel files, both physical and electronic, in accordance with department procedures.
  9. Attend Job fairs and other events as required.
  10. Responds to employee inquiries regarding policies and procedures.
  11. Stay Informed of all DCFS/DHS Employee Requirements
  12. Conduct Exit Interviews, Employee Engagement activities, and Retention strategies
  13. Processes new employees including explanation of Employee Handbook contents, 30/60/90 day Retention Strategies and other important information.
  14. Issues monthly reminders of annual performance evaluations; monitors completion and reports on the number of overdue appraisals.
  15. Responsible for HRIS data systems management, access and control.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a Human Resource field and at least two years of highly responsible human resource experience.
  2. Highly skilled in the use of all Microsoft Office programs.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the capacity to compose professional written correspondence,  
  4. Ability to function as a member of a team and provide other administrative support as needed.
  5. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  6. Organized and detail oriented with an emphasis on accuracy
  7. Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in dealing with public, in giving and obtaining information and in making proper disposition of problems as they may arise.
